Different Varieties of Birds at Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary

This is one of the major attractions of the city. It was known as the perfect place for duck shooting during the reign of British. In the year 1956, the place was designated as a bird reserve and later updated to a National Park. The best part is that it is acclaimed as a world heritage site by the UNESCO. The place is no less than a heaven for the bird lovers, with so many varieties chirping together in one place. It is located in north eastern part of Rajasthan and attracts many visitors.

The sanctuary shelters birds from Europe, Tibet, China and off course India. These creatures are unaware of the boundaries created by human and are free to survive anywhere and at any time. The sanctuary makes you believe this notion. Different species of painted, egret, open-billed, black and white necked storks are found here. The tallest flight birds, Saras cranes also nest in this part of the world during winter. Siberian cranes add to the beauty of the park when chilly breeze makes you feel shiver. Water-fowls make this region their homeland during the chilly winter. Kingfisher, Red Vented and white cheeked Bulbuls, Quails, Babblers, Sparrows, Partridges, Sparrows, Sunbirds and Parakeets also take shelter in this park during the winter season. Know more....

Tourist Attractions in Bharatpur

Iron Fort

Apart from the scenic beauty, the place is also rich in history and culture. The famous Lohagarh Fort or the Iron Fort stood strong against several attacks by the British rulers. However, Lord Lake was successful in capturing it. The fort is unique in its structure and design. It generates an aura of magnificence and strength. The structure is encircled with moat which was filled with water in the past. Some important monuments of the fort include Mahal Khas, Kishori Mahal, Moti Mahal and towers like Fateh Burj and Jawahar Burj. These towers were built to commemorate the victory over the British and Mughal armies. The entrance is beautifully designed with huge elephant images.

Museum

The government museum in Bharatpur is situated inside the Iron Fort. It is just 4 km away from the railway station and the bus stand. It depicts rare collection of inscriptions, sculptures, coins, weapons, arms and decorative art objects. The museum is proud to hold about 4000 antiquities. The buildings depict the marvelous architecture and art. The museum remains closed on Monday and the timing is 9. 45 A.M. to 5.15 P.M.

The Palace

It is a wonderful blend of Rajput and Mughal architecture. It is constructed in various phases by different rulers. The wonderful buildings and apartments are richly decorated with exquisite and colorful intricate designs. The palace depicts the royal and rich flavor of the past.
